Despite years of speculation that Queen Elizabeth II found Donald Trump “rude,” a new royal biography claims the late monarch actually enjoyed his company and shared common interests with the former US President.
Royal author Robert Hardman, in an updated edition of his biography on King Charles, said palace staff confirmed the Queen and Trump bonded over their mutual connections to Scotland, where both had family and land ties.
“It wasn’t just small talk. They discussed policy matters. He was super charming, on his best behaviour throughout,” one former royal staffer told Hardman, noting the Queen was also struck by Trump’s energy.
“He would bound up and down the stairs. When Joe Biden came three years later, we had to put him in the creaky old Edwardian lift.”
According to Hardman, the Queen’s first meeting with Trump in 2018 even overran by 20 minutes because they connected so well.
Palace insiders also dismissed reports that Trump broke protocol by keeping the Queen waiting or walking ahead of her, stressing he had actually arrived early and followed standard instructions to walk first while inspecting troops.
The revelations emerge just weeks before Trump’s planned second state visit to the UK this September, where he will be hosted at Windsor Castle by King Charles and Queen Camilla.
