Jay Blades, popularly known for hosting BBC’s The Repair Shop, is facing two rape charges, with police confirming that he’ll appear in court next Wednesday, August 13.
A statement from West Mercia Police reads: “Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. He is due to appear at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 13 August 2025.”
In addition to this, Blades appeared via video link at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing related to a separate charge brought by his ex-wife.
The TV presenter has been accused of emotional and physical coercion toward his estranged wife, Lisa‑Marie Zbozen, in September 2024.
Blades was arrested on May 3, 2024, the same day his wife announced their separation.
However, in court today, the BBC presenter denied engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour towards his former wife.
Following the initial allegations last year, The Independent reported on September 14 that the BBC had removed Blades from The Repair Shop.
His other projects with Channel 5 and Channel 4 were also either halted or scrapped in the wake of the allegations.
Afterward, Blades retreated from public life, cutting himself off from social media and making no public appearances.
He also stepped down from several of his prominent roles, including Chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University and ambassador for the King’s Foundation.
Now, as Blades faces further charges, his public reputation continues to deteriorate.
The Daytime TV host’s survival in the media landscape is looking increasingly insurmountable.
