George Clooney has a solid response to those who believe he is limited as an actor and claim he is less of an actor and more of a brand.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about his recent role in Noah Baumbach‘s Jay Kelly, Clooney didn't hesitate to respond to critics saying he plays characters similar to his personality on-screen.
“Do people say that I only play myself? I don’t give a sh**,” the Oscar winner told the outlet.
Good Night, and Good Luck’s director noted that there are only a few performers of his age who are allowed “to do broad comedies like O Brother, Where Art Thou?” as well as “do Michael Clayton or Syriana.”
“So if that means I’m playing myself all the time, I don’t give a sh**,” Clooney commented.
Furthermore, he mentioned a key quote in Jay Kelly: “Have you ever tried playing yourself? It’s hard to do.”
The Academy Award winner for Syriana was previously targeted by Hunter Biden, former President Joe Biden's son, for potentially critical remarks about Clooney’s acting career.
Last month, Hunter’s disparaging remarks came in an interview with the U.S. outlet Channel 5, where he said that Clooney is not a “movie star,” but rather a brand.
