In a rare royal twist, Prince Andrew appears to have won his long-running standoff with King Charles over the sprawling Royal Lodge estate, and the disgraced royal isn’t going anywhere.
The £30 million Windsor mansion, which Andrew has called home since 2003, was at the centre of a bitter royal power struggle after the King reportedly tried to evict his younger brother.
Charles, 76, had hoped to free up the massive property and allegedly wanted Andrew to downsize, possibly to make room for Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children.
But the Duke of York, 65, stood firm. Despite losing royal duties and facing years of scandal-fueled disgrace, Andrew clung to his 75-year lease agreement, and now, it seems, he’s prevailed.
According to The Daily Mail, Andrew showed official lease documents proving he has every legal right to stay put at Royal Lodge. And the King, for now, has had to back off.
The dramatic climbdown follows multiple reported tactics by Charles to oust his brother, including cutting off privately funded security. But Andrew refused to budge from the 30-room mansion he shares with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
Royal insiders once speculated that Charles had his eyes on the estate for William and Kate, who moved to nearby Adelaide Cottage in 2022. But with just four bedrooms and three growing children, the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be hunting for a more spacious home.
The next contendef is Fort Belvedere, a Gothic Revival estate in Windsor Great Park, boasting eight bedrooms, stables, lakes, a tennis court, and even a rose garden.
One insider claimed it’s perfect for the family: “Charlotte loves playing tennis,” they added.
