As King Charles prepares to host US President Donald Trump during a highly anticipated state visit this September, insiders say the monarch is deeply worried about what might come out of Trump’s mouth.
According to a senior palace source, the King was left “appalled” by Trump’s recent inflammatory remarks on immigration during a private trip to Scotland, in which he described illegal migration as a “horrible invasion” and warned that it is “killing Europe.”
Worse still, Trump reportedly sent unsolicited “advice” to newly elected UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer about how to handle the small boat crisis, claiming that migrants arriving on dinghies are “bad people.”
Now, royal aides are reportedly scrambling behind the scenes to prevent a major diplomatic incident.
The looming concern is that Trump might go off-script during the formal state banquet hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, or worse, deliver one of his infamous impromptu rants with the King awkwardly standing beside him.
“Charles has spent his entire life promoting tolerance and compassion,” a source close to the King told The Daily Beast.
“He will be appalled by what Trump said on Friday... and very concerned about a repeat performance in September.”
