King Charles doesn’t hold back when it comes to spoiling his grandchildren, and Prince George’s first birthday gift proves it.
Back in 2014, the monarch gifted his eldest grandson an unbelievable present worth around £18,000: a handcrafted Victorian-style shepherd’s hut, installed on the grounds of Highgrove House, his Gloucestershire residence.
Sourced from luxury Dorset-based company Plankbridge, the hut comes fully fitted with a wood-burning stove, a daybed, and cozy countryside charm, the ultimate royal hideaway.
It’s since become a favourite spot not just for George, but also for Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis during visits to their grandfather’s estate.
Visitors can even catch a glimpse of the hut during guided tours of the King’s Gardens.
The monarch also named a special arboretum in Scotland after George. Nestled within the Birkhall estate at Balmoral, Prince George’s Wood is a tribute to the young royal and King Charles’s passion for sustainability.
“This was a rather empty field the farm didn’t need anymore,” Charles said during a 2020 One Show interview.
“I managed to plant it the same year my grandson was born, so I thought I’d call it Prince George’s Wood.”
In addition to George, Charlotte, and Louis, King Charles is also grandfather to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, though tensions mean he rarely sees them.
