Prince Andrew’s post-scandal life inside Royal Lodge is surprisingly quiet, and deeply isolated.
In Fergie, Andrew and the Scandal of SouthYork, airing on Channel 5, royal experts unpack the Duke of York’s current day-to-day existence after stepping down from royal duties in 2020 following his ties to Jeffrey Epstein and a sexual assault lawsuit he later settled out of court.
Now 65, Andrew lives in a sprawling 30-room estate at Royal Lodge in Windsor, not alone, but with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
Despite divorcing in 1996, the pair have remained unusually close and continue to cohabit.
Daily Mail’s royal editor Richard Kay commented: “What does he do all day? Well, he doesn’t do very much. He is having to lead a life very much below the radar.”
Fellow royal expert Jennie Bond revealed a surprising hobby: “He will sit at the big screen and watch planes take off and land at airports. Everyone to their own.”
Another commentator, Sarah Hewson, added bluntly: “Sarah Ferguson has described him as a sad man, and it is a very sad existence.”
Despite it all, Fergie still speaks fondly of Andrew, calling him “a great man” and describing their wedding day as “the best day of [her] life.”
