Queen Elizabeth’s secret Bond girl role that shocked the world, and the royals

Queen Elizabeth II had the most iconic cameo of her reign, and not even her own family saw it coming.

On this day back in 2012, the late monarch shocked the world by literally becoming a Bond Girl. Her Majesty appeared alongside Daniel Craig’s James Bond in a jaw-dropping skit for the London Olympics, complete with helicopters and a parachute jump.

The legendary scene, directed by Danny Boyle, had Bond picking up the Queen at Buckingham Palace before “she” skydived into the opening ceremony. 

The Queen kept the entire thing a secret, even from her family.

Stage manager Sam Hunter revealed earlier this year: “The Queen never told her family she was doing it… That was one of the stipulations when she agreed to be part of it.”

Danny Boyle originally wanted an actress to play her, but when they ran the idea past the Palace, the Queen herself said: “I’ll do it.”
