Queen Elizabeth secretly supported Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal exit

The late Queen Elizabeth might have been a big supporter of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after all! 

Despite the media frenzy when Prince Harry and Meghan dropped their royal bombshell in 2020, one royal expert says Queen Elizabeth II would have quietly backed their decision to leave the UK and had understood their move “for years.”

Royal biographer Andrew Morton spilled the tea on Pod Save the King, claiming Her Majesty would have been “sympathetic” to Harry and Meghan stepping back from royal life especially since she once did the same thing.

“She lived in Malta with Prince Philip for two years when her father was King,” Morton said, pointing out that the Queen knew what it meant to take a breather from the royal spotlight.

After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their exit from royal duties the late Queen responded with a rare, personal statement after the now-infamous Sandringham Summit, saying: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved members of my family.”

It was reported that Harry felt blindsided by the statement, according to The Telegraph.

Morton believes the Queen saw echoes of her own life in Harry and Meghan’s desire to mix royal tradition with modern independence.

“Had circumstances been different, I think she would have done the same,” he said.

Why did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry exit the royal family? 

The couple announced their decision to step back as senior members of the British royal family on January 8, 2020. This move, often referred to as "Megxit," was aimed at achieving financial independence and splitting their time between the United Kingdom and North America. 

Following their departure, Harry and Meghan relocated to California, where they have since engaged in various media and philanthropic endeavours.
