Prince Louis, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s youngest child, is celebrating his 7th birthday today, April 23, and the little royal couldn’t turn cheekier.
The Prince and Princess of Wales marked their little one’s special day with a new photo that shows Prince Louis flashing a toothy grin at the camera, and looking every bit as adorable as ever.
To mark the young royal’s seventh birthday, we’ve combed the internet to bring you seven little known tid-bits about him that might surprise and delight you.
Royal kids are usually given names that harken back to their ancestors, but Prince Louis’ name is extra special.
It took his parents, William and Kate, four days to announce his full name, and we reckon that’s because they may’ve been extra busy picking the perfect ones out for their final child.
The prince is named Prince Louis Arthur Charles, with all three names bearing special importance in the royal family.
Louis’ great-granddad Prince Philip’s grandfather was named Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg, and it is also the middle name of his brother George, while Arthur is derived from a long royal lineage of Arthurs, and is also Louis’ father William and granddad Charles’ middle name. Charles, of course, comes from his grandfather, the King.
Prince Louis reportedly has close bonds with his family, especially his older sister Princess Charlotte and mom Kate, who even has a specially loving nickname for him.
In a 2023 video of the royals cooking s’mores together, Kate revealed the name they seem to use for Louis in the comfort of their home, calling him "Lou Bug." Isn’t that adorable?
As a young royal, Prince Louis may certainly be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and his favourite meals, but it appears that the little one actually enjoys the simple things – like a beetroot.
Louis’ mom, in 2019, when he was just one, shared how much he enjoyed the vegetable, telling famous English baker Mary Berry, “We grow our own vegetables, we've got carrots, beans, beetroot's a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”
Prince Louis is said to be quite sporty and reportedly "loves" cricket at the moment, a sport very much embedded into English culture.
On his sixth birthday last year, Daily Mail’s Rebecca English made the revelation, sharing that Louis is “proving to be not just good in class but sporty and fun (cricket is his big love at the moment, apparently).”
In fact, Prince Louis’ own mom has talked about his sportiness, while sharing how all her kids love sport. “They're all enjoying it, Louis is kamikaze, we're worrying about when he gets older, he will be in the middle of everything,” Kate said.
While it’s not exactly easy to pick a favourite for any parent but Princess Kate sure has a special bond with her youngest child Louis, who is said to be a "spitting image" of his mom.
Talking to Mirror UK, royal expert Jennie Bond shared how Kate has a "unique connection" with Louis, explaining, “Being the youngest is often something of a privilege. You get away with a lot more and you are that little bit special as the lastborn.”
She went on to add, “She (Kate) and William are very experienced parents and I’m sure they love all three kids equally – but probably in different ways. George because he’s the firstborn and has a destiny to fulfil, Charlotte because she’s the only girl, and Louis because he’s the youngest.”
The little Prince Louis has racked up quite the reputation for himself thanks to his playful and cheeky antics at royal engagements.
He’s famous not just for being as adorable as he is, but also for all the times that he’s stolen the royal show with his antics and the faces he can pull even at serious royal events like the Queen’s Jubilee or his granddad’s Coronation.
At the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Louis famously covered his ears with a scream during the royal fly past above Buckingham Palace. At another instance, Louis stood on the Palace balcony pretending to ride a motorcycle during the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
He was even seen blowing raspberries at his mom Kate during the Jubilee celebrations.
