Prince Andrew is back in the saddle just a day after a rare Easter appearance that raised royal eyebrows.
The Duke of York was seen horseback riding near Royal Lodge, his Windsor residence, on Monday, looking unfazed despite a fresh wave of public scrutiny over his surprise return to the spotlight at the Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel.
The outing comes as body language expert Judi James slammed Andrew’s behaviour at the church service as “cocky arrogance,” suggesting he attempted to reclaim a place in the royal fold with a dramatic and calculated entrance.
“It looked like his debutante’s coming out ball,” James told The Mirror. “Andrew’s body language was all about cocky arrogance from his dramatic arrival to his confident stance at the centre of the group.”
While his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson (aka Fergie) appeared poised and charismatic, waving to crowds and chatting with clergy, Andrew reportedly hid in the shadows of the chapel until the rest of the royal family was in place only to suddenly emerge for maximum visibility.
“With his jacket undone and legs splayed, he stood smack in the middle of the royal group. He was pointing dramatically as he chatted with Commander Tim, then vanished as soon as the King arrived only to walk in right behind him,” James added.
Though the Easter Mattins service is considered a private family event, Andrew’s attendance still raised eyebrows, given his ongoing royal exile.
In December, he notably skipped both the Sandringham Christmas gathering and the pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace, traditionally two of the most intimate family events of the year.
Andrew’s public image was critically damaged following his infamous 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, in which he attempted to defend his relationship with Epstein.
The backlash from that appearance ultimately led to his royal downfall, with the Queen removing him from official duties and forcing him into a private life largely out of the spotlight.
Now living at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, Andrew reportedly leads a secluded life. While his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie visit regularly, he remains largely isolated from public engagements.
