The Duffer Brothers, masterminds behind Netflix hit series Stranger Things, made end-time changes to the play script for the sake of upcoming finale season.
An original documentary, that takes viewers behind the curtains of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, disclosed that playwright Kate Trefry modified the play at the co-creators' request.
Kate appeared tense after she had to pause the rehearsals to announce the change of plans that Matt and Ross Duffer came up with.
She stopped the director Stephen Daldry after getting off the phone with the twin producers to reveal that whatever they plan to do, “it’s gonna be like 80% less.”
The streaming giant redacted the specific details mentioned by the two-time Olivier Award winner: “We’re gonna be able to tell very little of this story of [bleeped].” The writer continued: “We’re really not going to be able to say that much.”
The Drive writer reasoned that the switch is to ensure that the big “reveal” is preserved for the fifth season.
Following the scene, the screenwriter admitted that she is “very aware of the clock, but also we got to get it right. It doesn’t bother me to, like, lay down the law.”
The toning down of the stage play was seemingly necessary for the Duffer Brothers as their creative web series Stranger Things is wrapping up with its last season which is all set to premiere in 2025.
