Hollywood heavyweights Eddie Redmayne and Miles Teller are reportedly circling a high-stakes new spy thriller that could see them team up on screen for the very first time.
The pair are said to be in talks for Doug Liman’s upcoming film Star One, a globe-trotting espionage drama based on what’s being described as “one of the most important yet least known missions in modern history”.
According to reports, the project is already generating buzz ahead of its planned market launch at Cannes, with studios expected to battle it out for distribution rights.
In the film, Redmayne would play a tightly wound CIA strategist, all precision, rules and careful planning while Teller is tipped to take on the role of a more reckless, instinct-driven field agent.
The mismatched duo are thrown together on a top-secret mission to transport weapons deep into hostile territory, where trust is thin and danger is everywhere.
A synopsis teases the story as the “untold true story of the first intelligence star ever awarded” for an operation that changed the course of modern espionage, yet has largely remained out of the public eye.
The script comes from David Coggeshall, with production led by P.J. van Sandwijk alongside Project X Entertainment’s William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein.
Teller, meanwhile, has been making headlines off-screen after a lucrative deal involving his stake in The Long Drink Company, which was reportedly part of a $325 million sale.
Despite the windfall, the Top Gun: Maverick star insists he’s not walking away from acting anytime soon and is even eyeing producing more “underdog” stories going forward.
