Helena Bonham Carter has reportedly walked away from the upcoming fourth season of The White Lotus after just a week on set.
The insiders are calling “creative differences” with series creator Mike White.
The 59-year-old actress was originally cast in a high-profile role in the Emmy-winning HBO drama, but things allegedly turned sour early during filming in the French Riviera.
According to reports, White wanted the Hollywood favourite to deliver a loud, “boisterous” performance as a washed-up movie star desperately chasing a comeback.
However, sources claim the direction didn’t sit right with the actress, leading to her swift exit.
Her departure, first confirmed on April 24, has now been followed by further details suggesting the split was creative rather than personal.
HBO has since stepped in to address the situation, saying the character written for Bonham Carter “did not align” once production began.
The statement added that while everyone involved is disappointed, they remain hopeful of working with her again in the future.
In a swift casting shake-up, Laura Dern has joined the series in a brand-new role written specifically for her, rather than stepping into Helena’s shoes.
Filming for the new season began on April 15 and will span across glamorous locations in France, including Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Monaco and even Paris.
The storyline is set to explore rival film crews at the Cannes Film Festival, mixing luxury, tension and behind-the-scenes chaos.
Producer David Bernad teased that viewers can expect “the ups and downs of the festival and the pain and excitement of being there.”
Notably, it promised another dramatic, star-studded chapter in the hit series.
