Jessica Rothe has teased that a long-awaited third installment of the cult horror-comedy Happy Death Day could finally be on the cards and fans might be in for a seriously satisfying finale.

The 38-year-old actress, who shot to fame as doomed-but-determined college student Tree Gelbman in the 2017 time-loop slasher, revealed she recently sat down for dinner with writer-director Christopher Landon to discuss bringing the trilogy to a close.

According to Rothe, the pair are more motivated than ever to make Happy Death Day 3 happen, and Landon has already mapped out what she calls an “incredible” ending for Tree’s story.

She explained that both of them feel strongly about doing right by the character and the loyal fanbase.

Moreover, they are also now focused on developing the project to a point where studio bosses can’t say no.

Forever My Girl actress hinted that the planned conclusion would neatly wrap up the story while still keeping the spirit of the franchise alive.

She joked that with a “final girl” like Tree, nothing ever truly feels final.

The original film saw Tree trapped in a deadly time loop, forced to relive her murder over and over again, while the 2019 sequel Happy Death Day 2U expanded the chaos with sci-fi twists.

While fans wait for news on a third film, she has returned to darker territory in her new horror Affection, playing Ellie, a woman whose seizures leave her unable to recognise her own family.

She admitted the role was challenging, with director BZ Meza deliberately keeping the audience off-balance to maintain mystery.

Valley Girl star praised the collaborative atmosphere on set, saying she and co-star Joe Cross constantly experimented with scenes to keep things unsettling and unpredictable.
