Meghan Markle's handshake rejected by royal fan in resurfaced video

Meghan Markle’s final public appearance in the UK came with an uncomfortable encounter — and it was all caught on video.

During her last visit to Britain in September 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, the Duchess of Sussex joined Prince Harry, Prince William, and Princess Kate to greet royal well-wishers outside Windsor Castle. 

As the royal foursome read messages and accepted condolences from the public, Meghan had a moment that quickly went viral.

In a now widely circulated clip, a woman in a blue coat is seen deliberately turning away from Meghan, arms crossed over the railing as the Duchess approaches. 

The woman then looks at her neighbour, smirks, and shakes her head — seemingly making it clear she had no interest in interacting with the Duchess.

Despite the apparent snub, Meghan remained composed, moving on to greet the next well-wisher without missing a beat.

Body language expert Judi James told media at the time: “It's a tough call to be ignored close-up in public like this, and having the offer of a handshake refused will add to the sense of rejection. But Meghan seems to draw on her experience as an actress to minimise the impact as elegantly and calmly as possible.”

James added that Meghan’s smooth transition to the next supporter showed emotional control and professionalism: “There’s no sign of a negative response from Meghan, and this would be important as it could go either way.”
