Meghan Markle is once again at the centre of royal controversy after revealing on her new Netflix show that she prefers to go by her royal title.
Amid the debate, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams addressed whether the Sussex title could ever be stripped from Meghan and Harry. Speaking to the Daily Express, he clarified that such a move would require an Act of Parliament—an outcome he deems “highly improbable.”
“In that unlikely case, Harry would still be a prince as he was born one,” Fitzwilliams noted.
The royal commentator also defended Meghan’s choice to use the Sussex name as a surname, explaining that it’s a common practice within the Royal Family.
“She has made abundantly clear how fond she is of her title recently,” he said.
However, he also suggested that Meghan is leveraging the title for personal benefit while living in the US.
“She is intent on maximising something which she knows has value,” he added.
Speaking on her cooking show With Love, Meghan, the Duchess explained that using “Sussex” as a surname allows her to share the same last name as her children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. However, her comments have sparked backlash among royal fans who believe the couple should no longer hold their titles.
