John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski defended the movie’s 169-minute-long runtime.
What is now touted as the longest running movie in the action film realm, it was debated why the fourth film in the franchise needed to be lengthy considering the first movie ran for 101 minutes.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the director addressed talks about the movie’s run time saying: "If that's the critique, we’ll take it"
Stahelski added that the Keanu Reeves-starrer was like "an opera" where he revealed that the run time was not as much of a concern as others made it out to be.
"I don't think we’ve ever concerned ourselves, we just watch the movie. I think it's the length that we feel is the best version of the movie. We've tried longer, we've tried much shorter. That's what we feel is a good movie."
The devil must have certainly been in the details as initial screens of John Wick 4 received rave reviews ahead of its international premiere.
Elaborating on the initial delay, where the movie was supposed to be released in May 2021. the director shared that the extended time allowed him to try "a lot of different paths for the story".
"They take a little time to put together, and we wanted to make sure we have the story in our head first," Stahelski continued.
"I think it just took what it took. When we felt ready, we were like, 'OK, we're ready'."
Speaking on the prospect of a fifth movie the director shared that it would greatly depend on the reception of the movie.
"You have to see how the audience responds to what we did. The only reason we've had a chance to make these movies is that people have liked what we have done. So I think we have to wait and see how the audience responds to it. Hopefully they'll like it."
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set for its cinematic release on March 24.
