Regé-Jean Page has dished on the real reason he left Bridgerton after just one season.

During an interview with Vanity Fair for their Hollywood cover story, the 34-year-old actor revealed that he only signed up to appear in the first season of the period drama.

"I signed up to do a job and I did the job and then I did some other jobs," he shared. "That's it. That's the story. I wish it was more glamorous than that."

Page went on to explain that the story of his character – he played Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings – was finished, saying, “The temptation would be to roll with the distractions and go, 'Oh, well, the story went really well so we can kind of change this up and make some other stuff up, I guess.'"

"That was never what we'd signed up to do,” he added.

Regé-Jean Page Character in Bridgerton Season 01:

The actor played the role of a brooding hero who arrives at the town as a friend of the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony. Over the season, he developed a liking for Anthony’s sister Daphne, played by Phoebe Dynevor.

The Duke’s distaste for marriage and vengeance for his father came between the intensity of his attraction for the Bridgerton sister.

However, he couldn’t fight it for long and the pair eventually came to have a happy ending.
