Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on field, receives CPR

Damar Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills safety, is in serious condition after slumping on the field during Monday Night Football.

The NFL has suspended the game for the night.

Early in the game's first quarter, 24-year-old Hamlin tackled wide receiver Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals, causing the injury.

Then, all of a sudden, he dropped to the ground again. As Hamlin was being placed in an ambulance, medical personnel appeared to be giving him oxygen and performing CPR on him.

Two miles from the stadium, the player was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. According to ESPN, his parents, father Mario and mother Nina were carried down from the stands and put in the ambulance alongside him.

A half-hour after the fall, Hamlin's marketing representative Jordan Rooney said on Twitter that "his vitals are back to normal" despite the fact that he is apparently intubated and undergoing tests.

Players from both teams knelt on the field while Hamlin was being treated by medical personnel, with several Bills players crying.

An hour after his collapse, the NFL made the formal decision to call off the game for the evening.

"Tonight's Buffalo Bills/Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin collapsed," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced in a statement.

"Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition."

"Our thoughts are with Damar and with the Buffalo Bills."

"This is about Damar Hamlin," former NFL player and ESPN commentator, Ryan Clark, said during the broadcast.

"It was about a young man at 24-year-old living his dream…and now he fights for his life."
