Ryan Murphy praises Evan Peters for staying in his character 'for months'

Ryan Murphy praises Evan Peters for taking such a challenging role in Dahmer and the latter dives into the challenges himself.

On October 28, Evan Peters, Rryan Murphy and co-stars Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins sat together for a panel discussion for Netflix's original limited series Dahmer.

As per Variety, the preparation for the series went on for four months, where Murphy noted that Peters tried to get Dahmer's physicality down by wearing lead weights around his arms and lifts in his shoes and he said that Peters "basically stayed in this character, as difficult as it was, for months."

Also sitting in the panel, Peters said, " I really went back and forth on whether I should do it or not. I knew it was going to be incredibly dark and an incredible challenge."

Peters also explained that after receiving the scrips he watched Dahmer’s 1994 interview on "Dateline" to "dive into the psychology of that extreme side of human behavior."

Talking about his preparation, Peters said, "He has a very straight back. He doesn’t move his arms when he walks, so I put weights on my arms to see what that felt like. I wore the character shoes with lifts in them, his jeans, his glasses, I had a cigarette in my hand at all times."

Peters also took the help of a dialect coach "to get down his voice." He made a "45-minute audio composite" to not only learn about his speech patterns but also "get into his mindset and understand that each day that we were shooting."
