Kadeem Hardison had heart problems.
The six-season run of A Different World from 1987 to 1993 captivated viewers with its all-too-common love tale between Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
The duo, played by Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy, respectively, was viewed by fans as the ideal couple, which many wished their own real-life relationships might aspire to.
Although the chemistry between the performers was fantastic on screen, Hardison and Guy's relationship in real life was completely platonic because Hardison had feelings for his A Different World co-star Cree Summer.
“One night we went out and then we started kissing, and the next thing you know, she was telling me she was in love with me, and I was just stunned,” the actor said.
“And then I had to pretend to be in love with Jasmine while being in love with Cree.”
Kadeem Hardison discusses his brief relationship with actress Cree Summer, who portrayed Whitley and Dwayne's friend Winifred "Freddie" Brooks on A Different World, in a teaser clip for a forthcoming episode of TV One's Uncensored.
Hardison and Summer were pictured walking multiple red carpet events together throughout the course of their year-long relationship. They even managed to post a few private exchanges on A Different World.
