Nathan Fillion shares promising update on ‘Firefly’ revival plans

Nathan Fillion has shared a fresh update on the long-awaited Firefly animated revival reassuring fans that the project remains in active development despite not yet receiving an official series order.

"It takes a lot longer than one would hope to develop a television series," Fillion said noting that even promising projects are never guaranteed to be commissioned.

The animated continuation was first announced earlier this year with Fillion and several original cast members expressing interest in returning to voice their beloved characters.

The proposed story is expected to take place between the 2002 television series and the 2005 film Serenity expanding the franchise's timeline without altering established events.

Earlier updates indicated the project had already completed a pilot script, secured showrunners and lined up an animation studio. However the series is still seeking a network or streaming service to officially move forward.

Fillion has previously encouraged fans to continue showing support online believing strong audience demand could help convince potential distributors to pick up the series.
