Shrek is getting a new instalment after a wait of nearly two decades as its last movie Shrek Forever After came out in 2010.
The first look at the fifth part was out on June 16, 2026, sparking a massive wave of outrage from the fans.
There is a notable change in the animation style as the face of the protagonist and other characters seem to have been rendered in a new way.
However, the art style does not seem to sit well with the viewers as they turned to social media to share their opinions about the new trailer.
One of the X users pointed out: “they should learn from Ice Age,” while another was disappointed at the results: “Far far away from what the fans asked for.”
Although some defended the creators by reasoning it is technological advancement, a critic penned down about Ice Age and Toy Story for "looking exactly the same” over years.
They were of the opinion that the “same animation style” can be kept while the “graphics get updated.”
Someone also noted that the upcoming movie looks like it relied on artificial intelligence, questioning: “Why does it look like AI?”
Despite the ongoing debate, fans await the release of the new animation film which is scheduled to release next year on June 30, 2027.
