Shania Twain is officially getting the Hollywood biopic treatment, with a new film set to chart her extraordinary rise from small-town Canada to global superstardom.
The project, simply titled Shania, will be written and directed by filmmaker Leah McKendrick for Sony Pictures, according to Deadline.
The 60-year-old singer will also be heavily involved behind the scenes as a producer, working alongside Amie Karp to help shape her own story for the big screen.
McKendrick, who previously wrote and directed Scrambled and has the upcoming Netflix rom-com Voicemails for Isabelle, said the project is a “dream come true”.
She revealed on Instagram that her long-standing admiration for the countery-pop legend goes way back.
She joked that she used to film “Shania music videos in her bedroom” before becoming a filmmaker.
Describing the singer as a “wild-hearted force”, McKendrick promised the film will capture her trailblazing journey and emotional highs and lows.
“I am honoured. I am humbled. I am READY. Let’s go, girls,” she wrote, quoting Twain’s iconic anthem.
While plot details are still tightly under wraps, the songstress' life story already reads like a movie script.
From her tough upbringing in Windsor, Ontario, to dominating the charts in the 1990s and 2000s, she delivered smash hits including Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, That Don’t Impress Me Much, and You’re Still the One.
She is also preparing for a busy year ahead, with her seventh studio album Little Miss Twain set for release on July 24.
