Brooke Shields has opened up about one of the most awkward moments of her early fame.
The 60-year-old Hollywood icon revealed that she felt deeply uncomfortable after being asked about her body on live television at just 15 years old.
She looked back on the cringeworthy interview with veteran broadcaster Barbara Walters and admitted she wishes she had handled the situation very differently.
Speaking on the Dinner’s On Me podcast, Brooke recalled being asked about her “measurements” during the chat, something she now sees as completely inappropriate for a teenage girl.
The Blue Lagoon star confessed she went along with the question at the time because young women in the spotlight had little power in those days.
She explained that she “didn’t brush it off” and simply answered, though she now feels she would have fired back with a witty response instead.
Reflecting on growing up in the public eye during the 1970s and 80s, Brooke said women were navigating a “male world” where their value was often tied to appearance.
She admitted the intense scrutiny affected her deeply and that she took criticism very personally for years.
But the Pretty Baby actress says life at 60 feels far more empowering than her teenage years ever did.
She recently revealed she actually feels “sexier” now than she did as a young starlet and believes older women deserve far more visibility and respect.
The Endless Love actress, who launched her haircare brand Commence for women over 40, said society often acts as though women lose their value with age.
Brooke firmly disagrees, insisting she now feels more confident, fulfilled and comfortable in herself than ever before.
