Demi Moore recently weighed in on the importance of free speech at the jury press conference on Day 1 of the Cannes Film Festival on May 12.
The Substance actress, who is also the jury member at Cannes, responded to the political statements being detrimental to the movies at the festival.
“I would hope not,” said the 63-year-old during the conference.
Demi noted that part of art is about “expression,” adding, “if we start censoring ourselves then I think we shut down the very core of our creativity which is I think where we can discover truth and answers”.
The Striptease actress spoke up after 2017 jury president Pedro Almodóvar’s comments about the state of democracy and free speech in the U.S.
Elsewhere at the conference, Demi also discussed the issue of AI and its use in Hollywood.
“AI is here, and so to fight it is to, in a sense, to fight something that is a battle that we will lose,” explained the Ghost actress, per Variety.
Therefore, Demi pointed out that to “find ways in which we can work with it, I think, is a more valuable path”.
However, the actress questioned the crowd, “Are we doing enough to protect ourselves?”
“I don’t know. My inclination would be to say probably not,” she stated.
