Jamie Campbell Bower has revealed the surprising change he desperately wanted for Vecna before returning for the final season of Stranger Things.

The 37-year-old actor, who won fans over with his chilling portrayal of the show's terrifying monster, admitted he hoped his character would feel more "tactile" when he stepped back into Vecna's skin for the fifth and final season.

Speaking during Entertainment Weekly's Brave Warriors panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, he explained that footwear plays a huge role in the way an actor moves.

Thus, making the creature's feet one of his biggest concerns after filming season four.

He revealed prosthetics designer Barrie Gower asked if there was one thing he would change about the character, and his answer was immediate and that was the feet.

However, by the time production began on the final season, technology had taken over.

Instead of receiving more realistic prosthetic feet, Jamie discovered his toes had been replaced with CGI, joking there was no longer any reason to worry about them,  even if it wasn't quite the solution he had imagined.

Barrie also lifted the lid on the gruelling process of transforming Jamie into Vecna during season four.

The make-up team often began work as early as 1am or 2am to have the actor camera-ready by morning, before filming 10 to 12-hour days and spending another two hours removing the elaborate prosthetics.

Thankfully, things became much easier for the show's final outing.

Vecna's redesigned, more damaged appearance relied far more heavily on CGI, reducing Jamie's daily make-up time to around three hours.

Removing the prosthetics also became much quicker, allowing the exhausted actor to wrap up in under an hour, and, as Barrie joked, making bathroom breaks a lot easier too.
