Anne Hathaway is reflecting on one of her most iconic roles, Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaries, and the one regret she has about the iconic transformation scene.

The Interstellar actress got emotional as she remembered another pivotal aspect of the film, namely the director of the beloved movie Garry Marshall.

In a cover story for People, The Devil Wears Prada star stated “I miss Garry Marshall so much,” of the late filmmaker and got visibly emotional before remarking on how the breakout role changed her life.

Hathaway was looking at an image of her makeover scene from the film in which she stood next to Julie Andrews and Larry Miller who played Paolo the hairdresser in the fan-favourite movie.

The Academy Award winner then noted that she regrets the hair transformation from curly to straight because of the sort of message it sends.

“We gave Mia curly hair, and people thought we were saying that curly hair is unattractive, which was a terrible, completely unintended side effect. It was just a matter of it was going to be easier and less time in the makeup trailer for us to just go with my natural hair for the post makeover stuff,” Hathaway said.

“So it was just a decision that was made for practical reasons that wound up having unintended consequences. But, other than that pretty flawless experience," she concluded.

Notably, Hathaway’s character has curly hair, spectacles and a generally unkempt appearance before her makeover.
