Anne Hathaway has opened up about The Princess Diaries 3 amid her promotional tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
During her latest media interaction, the star confirmed that the much discussed sequel is still under active development.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly alongside co-star Meryl Streep, she stated, “One hundred percent, we’re constantly working on it,” adding that the project is very much alive behind the scenes.
However, the actress explained that progress briefly slowed after The Devil Wears Prada 2 unexpectedly took priority.
She noted that the film “cropped up unexpectedly and took over the space,” making it difficult to focus on both projects at the same time during filming in 2025.
As that production on The Devil Wears Prada 2 is complete, she mentioned that The Princess Diaries 3 is likely to be the next focus creatively.
“The intention is to make Princess Diaries hopefully next,” she shared.
Despite that, she mentioned that there is strong interest in the sequel and work is continuing on the script.
“Everybody wants it,” she pointed out, adding that they are “chipping away at the script.”
Moreover, she reflected on the pressure of returning to beloved roles, noting that expectations are very high for legacy sequels and the story needs to be done right.
