Tim Allen has revealed that a long-rumoured revival of hit sitcom Home Improvement has stalled.
The 72-year-old actor has pointed out the finger at “personality problems” among the former cast.
Allen, best known as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor in the beloved 1990s series, opened up while promoting his upcoming film Toy Story 5, where he once again voices Buzz Lightyear.
Speaking to Us Weekly, he admitted the revival talks have “kept getting stuck”.
“They keep talking about how it could move forward, but they get stuck because there are some personality problems right now with the boys,” he said, referring to his on-screen sons.
The Santa Clause star didn’t go into detail, but hinted that the issues surrounding former child stars have made a reunion tricky.
The actors in question, Zachery Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith, have all taken very different paths since the show ended in 1999.
Bryan, who played eldest son Brad, has faced a string of legal troubles in recent years, including prison sentences linked to parole violations and DUI-related offences.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Taylor Thomas stepped away from Hollywood after early fame, making only rare appearances.
While Taran Noah Smith left acting entirely as a teenager, saying he never truly chose the career in the first place.
Allen said he once imagined a revival focused on the grown-up sons, but added, “That’s a little challenging right now, to put it mildly.”
Fans of the classic sitcom have long hoped for a comeback, but for now it seems the tool belt may stay in the garage a little longer.
