Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic starring the late icon’s nephew Jaafar Jackson is finally out now, and critics have declared it to be not worth the wait.

The film has received reviews that aggregate to less than average and one to two out of five stars with the primary critique being that it is bland.

As per the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has received a 26% critics score based on 42 reviews.

The problems with the film also include a lack of character development, problems with the performance and the avoidance of controversy.

As per a report by Deadline, the movie is is projected to open with $150 million at the global box office this weekend, with the cost of production being $200 million.

The report adds that Michael could leave previous biopics such as Straight Outta Compton and Bohemian Rhapsody behind in terms of domestic outlook.

“Overseas, the Michael weekend is being figured between $75M-$80M from 82 markets day-and-date with domestic including UK & Ireland, China, Mexico and Germany,” it added.

Notably, it is yet to be seen how the commercial prospects of the film are affected by the early critic reviews, which have been surprisingly underwhelming so far.
