Zayn Malik gets candid about his Pakistani background and the personal influence behind his latest creative release.
During the chat, the former One Direction member explained the project was about creative differences and personal expression.
In an interview with Zach Sang on his podcast, the artist shared that being half Pakistani encouraged him to bring elements of his background into the album and represent his culture more openly through his work.
He said, “It’s my culture and you know, literally I’m half Pakistani originally, all comes from there and it is a f****** cool thing to be able to represent that, educate people.”
He went on to add about misunderstandings surrounding different cultures, mentioning that he wanted the album to help people learn and feel more connected,
“I feel like so many people live in fear of things they don’t understand, if I can help explain our culture and explain where we come from, that feels like a good thing."
Furthermore, the Magic hitmaker noted that KONNAKOL is both a music project and a way to share his heritage with a larger audience.
