Steven Spielberg has made a jaw-dropping admission about one of Hollywood’s most beloved sci-fi blockbusters.
The 79-year-old filmmaker revealed that he believes Christopher Nolan was simply the “better fit” for Interstellar all along.
The legendary director, who is gearing up for his own new release Disclosure Day, opened up about the behind-the-scenes scramble that saw him develop the space epic for a full year before walking away from it.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Spielberg said he was completely hooked on the project after deep-diving into real space science.
Even spending time at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory speaking with top engineers and astrophysicists.
He even roped in Jonathan Nolan to work on early drafts of the screenplay, but admitted the project never quite locked into place during his time on it.
Jonathan apparently warned Steven that his brother, Christopher Nolan, was already “buzzing around” the idea and would likely jump in if it ever became available.
Steven now says that warning turned out to be spot on.
Once he stepped away, Christopher moved in almost immediately, taking the concept and transforming it into the emotional, mind-bending space drama fans know today.
The Jurassic Park director didn’t hold back in his praise, admitting: “Interstellar was a much better movie in Chris Nolan’s hands than it would have been in mine.”
