Steven Spielberg recently got candid about the one genre that he has not conquered yet, pure horror.

The 79-year-old filmmaker whose career has been full of horror moments in Jaws, Jurassic Park and Close Encounters of the Third Kind has told Empire magazine that he has never delved into horror fully.

"I haven't directed a horror film yet, and I've always wanted to, and someday I may," he said.

Spielberg confessed that watching great horror movies occasionally fills the desire to such an extent that it catches him off guard to create a horror movie.

The veteran star has chosen Weapons by Zach Cregger as one of the best horror movies of the last ten years.

"When I see a great horror film like Weapons, it doesn't make me want to make a horror film that's as scary or scarier than Weapons," he noted.

"It satisfies me so completely." Spielberg was a co-writer/producer of Poltergeist (1982) and gave up directing responsibilities to Tobe Hooper.

Moreover, Spielberg complimented in the interview that the Dune films of Denis Villeneuve are one of his favorite science-fiction of all time.

He referred to Dune: Part Two as the best movie Denis has ever shot and he can not wait to watch Dune: Part Three later this year.

"I'm sure he'll show it to me early," Spielberg added. Punching, "I'm such a fan of his."

Spielberg is again going back to sci-fi with his next film Disclosure Day. There was no time frame to a possible horror project.

Disclosure Day is scheduled to be released in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
