Chris Pratt has recently explained why he changed Mamma Mia catchphrase in new Super Mario movie.
In his latest interview with ScreenRant, the American actor revealed that the original movie character uses an Italian accent that did not align with his interpretation of the character.
“Why does it make sense for a guy who’s from Brooklyn who doesn’t have that accent to use that so much?” said the 46-year-old actor as he believes that a Brooklyn-based version of Mario made the line difficult to perform in an Italian accent.
The Passengers actor pointed out that the script included the phrase, saying, “It’s written as ‘Mamma Mia.’”
However, Chris noted that he did find it difficult to integrate it naturally, stating, “It’s always really hard to find how ‘Mamma Mia’ works.”
Therefore, the Jurassic World actor tried to experiment with “delivery variations” to better fit the character’s voice and tone in the new adaptation.
Interestingly, Chris note that he’s “always tried to vary,” suggesting the adjustments were made in pacing and tone.
“I think that’s maybe why they slowed it down to take some of the stink off it because I’m not sure I ever fully got it right, but it’s like ‘Maaammaaa Miaaaa’,” added the Mercy actor.
Besides Chris, other stars featured in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Brie Larson, Donald Glover, Charlie Day, Issa Rae, Glen Powell, Benny Safdie and Luis Guzmán.
Meanwhile, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will release in theatres on April 1.
