Sarah Michelle Gellar has finally revealed what made Hulu to cancel Buffy reboot.
Sarah, who is excited to appear on big screen for first time in almost 20 years, reflected on the decision of reboot cancellation at the SXSW Film & TV Festival premiere of her new movie Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
“Hulu had decided not to move forward with the Buffy revival. Let me tell you, nobody saw this coming,” explained the 48-year-old in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
Sarah opened up that for many years, she and director Chloé Zhao were working on a revival for Hulu and Searchlight Television.
“I've been asked since the day I left to return to Sunnydale,” continued the Scooby-Doo actress.
Sarah however mentioned that it “never occurred to me that it was something I was going to do. Then four years ago, Chloé, the witch that she is comes into my life”.
The actress pointed out that the director made her to do the revival series, stating, “It was like I was stepping back in time.”
Although Sarah and her director filmed a pilot episode, the actress shared that she was surprised to hear this news about the series’ cancellation.
“No one saw this coming, including the head of Searchlight [Pictures],” she further said.
Interestingly, Sarah noted that it was one person who killed the project, saying, “We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn't for him.”
"That's very hard,” she added.
Meanwhile, Sarah said that it’s “too soon to say” about the reboot show.
