Yerin Ha has been introduced as a new character in the beloved series Bridgerton, and the actress is opening up about the importance of Asian representation in current times.

The star, who plays the role of Sophie Baek (a maid who attends a masquerade ball and catches the eye of Benedict Bridgerton) reflected on how it feels to be a part of the show.

In a conversation with People, she stated “It’s been really, really amazing and beautiful. I’ve been really caught up with a press tour, it has been really positive.”

Yerin added, “I just feel so proud that I get to be the face of that and keep advocating for change and knowing that we deserve these roles and spaces.”

The Australian actress has been open about her fears and hesitations with joining the highly popular series in the past.

Yerin had noted beforehand that she was unaware how she would be perceived, as well as the public scrutiny that comes with being a woman in media and having people comment on your looks.

The Halo actress revealed that she has learned self-acceptance via Sophie, and that the cast and crew of Bridgerton also made her experience very positive.
