Timothée Chalamet has hit back at critics after his headline-grabbing behaviour on the press tour for Marty Supreme, insisting it’s all part of the character not ego.

The 29-year-old Hollywood heart-throb has raised eyebrows in recent interviews after boldly declaring his latest role as table tennis ace Marty Mauser to be his best work yet.

But according to Timothée says fans have missed the point.

Speaking to IndieWire, the Dune star explained that his confident soundbites are simply him “channelling the spirit of Marty”.

He said the film represents something rare in today’s cinema landscape that is an original story and he’s determined to give it everything.

“This is a movie about chasing a dream,” he said.

“Whether it’s merch, Zooms or media appearances, I’m leaving it all on the field.”

The Wonka star came under fire after claiming he’d delivered “top-of-the-line performances” for the past seven or eight years, with some accusing him of arrogance.

Then he doubled down, saying he doesn’t want people including himself  to take the role for granted.

“This is really some top-level stuff,” he added.

After that things heated up further after an appearance on Good Morning America, where his cryptic comments were taken by some as an early Oscar prediction.

“I want everything to win,” he said, hinting he’s confident about the film’s future.

Adding to the hype, Kylie Jenner's boyfriend revealed he spent nearly seven years mastering table tennis for the role.

It's worth noting that he even practised between shoots on other films, including during glamorous festival trips.

What is the release date of 'Marty Supreme'?

Marty Supreme is scheduled for a wide theatrical release in the United States on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
