SNL’s ‘espresso martini’ skit taking jab at Taylor Swift?

Saturday Night Live is known for taking jabs at popular figures, and after a skit briefly hinted to Taylor Swift, netizens on social media are debunking if the mention was satire or appreciation.

The sketch comedy show’s ‘Espresso Martini’ skit opens with Ariana Grande talking about women who drink the alcoholic drink and become unhinged.

To combat the issue, the Supernatural singer says, “My team and I have developed a solution, the espresso martini safe room.”

‘A completely padded room filled with exactly what they need to ride out their mania until they can re-integrate into society,” Ariana continues.

The skit then cuts to the pink room, which has a shot of a wall with headphones plugged in, with Taylor’s album Lover in between the sockets.

The shot insinuates that the women can only listen to the singer’s seventh studio album while in espresso martini rehab.

Soon after the clip was aired, swifties took to X (formerly Twitter) with a number of them expressing excitement over the mention, while others wrote, “mind you, they’re making fun of swifties here.”

A second user defended, “i feel like this video is just misleading to make drama....the thongs in that room are there to calm drunk girls that's why taylor is there too.”

Another added, “You do realize…. This is like mocking swiftie culture, right? Call me woke but i did not find this funny at all.”

Is ‘Lover’ a breakup album?

It is widely debated that Lover is a break up album, due to the underlying themes of some of the tracks in the album.
