Ariana Grande’s Saturday Night Live monologue was delivered through song, and the singer was joined by the former cast mate Bowen Yang.
In the Christmas themed episode, the Santa Tell Me singer used the tune of All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey to disclose her dilemma of knowing not to get her cousin’s boyfriend Steve for the holiday.
After the 7 Rings hit maker asks for suggestions for what gifts to get people who she doesn’t know that well for Christmas, Bowen pops up to say that he can help.
“Can I just say how much I loved your line in Wicked,” Ariana said to her former Wicked co-star, who played Pfannee, one of Glinda’s wealthy and popular friends.
“Thank you,” the comedian replied, later clarifying that that was his line in the film, and suggesting a back massage for Steve, which the singer revealed would freak him out.
Elsewhere in the monologue, Ariana sings that she did not have much time to shop since her schedule was never free, due to the Wicked: For Good director, John Chu, encouraging her to do press tours for the film.
Notably, this is Bowen’s final episode as a cast member on SNL, and he expressed his gratitude for being able to take his final bow next to his friend Ariana.
Bowen joined SNL in 2018 as a writer, before becoming a cast member.
