Donald Trump’s latest announcement has sparked a lot of comparisons to the premise of Suzanne Collins novel The Hunger Games.
The President of the United States spoke on a number of events for the 250th birthday of America, and one of them is a multi-day athletic event.
In the short video, the politician stated, “the first-ever Patriot Games, an unprecedented four-day athletic event featuring the greatest high school athletes — one young man and one young woman from each state and territory.”
Meanwhile the premise of the highly popular series involves boy and girl tributes from each district of the nation participate in a televised event, fighting to the death in an enclosed arena.
Although the Patriot Games are nearly not as extreme and violent as the fictional Hunger Games, netizens couldn’t help but compare the glaring similarities.
“I saw that "Patriot Games" news and thought it was a joke. It is not. Next week Trump will announce The Long Walk,” one netizen wrote on X.
“DID HE JUST ANNOUNCE THE HUNGER GAMES,” another internet user wrote, as a third added, “America hosting its first hunger games on our countries 250-year anniversary,” with a red heard emoji.
