Universal’s Wicked: For Good has officially surpassed its own franchise, propelling past last year’s Wicked with a record-breaking debut.

The second instalment opened to a massive $150M domestic and $226M global, easily topping the first film’s $112.5M domestic and $164M worldwide launch, meaning the sequel is literally beating itself at the box office.

The musical shattered multiple records in one sweep, including the biggest global and domestic opening for a movie based on a Broadway show, and career-best openings for Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, director Jon M. Chu, composer Stephen Schwartz, and producer Marc Platt.

It also set new highs for a November musical debut, earned the second-biggest domestic opening of 2025, and became Universal’s second-largest domestic opener ever, trailing only Jurassic World.

Preview numbers were equally wild, with a $30.8M Thursday haul and a $68.9M first day, both easily outshining the previous Wicked film.

On the global stage, it delivered the third-highest opening weekend ever for a movie musical and the fourth-biggest worldwide start of 2025.

Simply put, Wicked: For Good didn’t just perform, it dominated.
