Glen Powell is delivering charm and sarcasm in his Saturday Night Live monologue, starting off strong with some self-deprecating jokes.
The Anyone But You star made his dream-come-true hosting debut on the sketch comedy show’s 51’st season by acknowledging that people online are tired of seeing his face, since he has so many projects coming out.
“I’ve also seen a lot of people say, Glen Powell came out of nowhere and that’s just not true, I started acting when I was 10 in Austin, Texas,” the Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over actor stated.
Glen then revealed that as a teen he also self-directed some films that were, “a little experimental, emotionally nuanced, I was watching a lot of French New Wave at the time, I think you’ll see the influence,” before a much younger video of him started playing.
In the short and grainy clip, the now 37-year-old could be seen running in slow-mo shots to the song Sugar, We’re Goin Down by Fall Out Boy, before the video cuts to him lip syncing the song with a towel around his shoulder and a navy hat.
“That was actually my audition for Top Gun,” he quipped after the clip was done playing, clearing the rumours that he has just gotten into acting.
Notably, Glen also talked about how his hosting debut was supposed to be a long time ago but got delayed due to COVID and his lack of popularity at the time.
No, Powell and Sweeney have never dated, however they did turn up the chemistry to promote their rom-com Anyone But You.
