Sydney Sweeney, widely recognised as one of Hollywood’s top young stars, has struggled to perform this year and is facing a shocking career slump in 2025.

The 26-year-old actress, who gained fame for her roles in Euphoria, has now racked up four consecutive flops, with three being box office releases.

Christy

Sweeney’s November release Christy failed to make a mark, pulling in just $1.31 million.

According to the critics, the plot was "run-of-the-mill biopic" and another "underdog sports story," finding the narrative conventional.

The reviewers also noted that the film spends little time on Martin's inner life, leaving audiences wondering how to feel about a character who sometimes acts like a "jerk."

The movie basically tells the story of Christy Martin, a college athlete who discovers her natural talent for boxing and under the guidance of her trainer and later husband, James Martin, she rises to fame.

She also faces challenges in her personal life and dealing with family tensions.

Americana

August brought the Americana disaster, grossing only $500,000.

The story is about a rare, old Lakota Ghost shirt that gets sold on the black market, leading to a fight over it among different local outsiders and misfits.

Some critics thought the movie relied too much on other films, feeling like a “copy of a copy” of other neo-Westerns and lacking its own unique style.

Although, the film was heavily promoted, but the backlash over her American Jeans ad campaign seemed to overshadow the release, leaving the box office cold.

Eden

Eden, also released in August, fared slightly better but still flopped with $1.05 million.

The movie was directed by Ron Howard, is a historical survival thriller based on the true story of a small group of disillusioned Europeans who settled on the remote Floreana Island in the Galápagos during the 1930s, hoping to build a new life far from modern society.

Despite the actress’s strong performance, audiences didn’t show up, cementing her unlucky streak this year.

Echo Valley

June’s Echo Valley hit streaming platforms but struggled to attract viewers.

The film is a thriller starring Julianne Moore as a mother forced to confront how far she will go to protect her troubled, drug-addicted daughter, played by the Immaculate actress, after the daughter arrives at the family farm covered in blood.

Reports suggest the show had “minimal engagement,” marking the fourth flop in a row for the actress.

Some Reddit users didn’t hold back with their criticism of Sweeney.

One commented that “she always has the same face when she thinks she’s acting."

Others chimed in about her recent controversies, pointing out that “all she had to say is, ‘No, I’m not racist and I don’t believe in white supremacy.’”

Some users even questioned her current ventures, asking, “Why do you think she is selling bathwater now?”

Fans are now eagerly anticipating 2026, hoping the actress can turn things around and reclaim her place back with smarter project choices and a fresh start.
