Meghan Markle’s return to acting has sparked fierce backlash, with one critic accusing the Duchess of Sussex of “cosplaying whatever’s trending.”
The 44-year-old former Suits actor is making her first on-screen appearance in seven years, playing herself in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends, a comedy starring Lily Collins and Henry Golding.
YouTube commentator Leilani of Barbados, who has built a following critiquing the Duchess’s ventures, told Express.co.uk: “She’s been practising acting for years, cosplaying businesswomen, philanthropists, trad wives, or whatever’s trending. This isn’t a comeback, it’s her millionth reinvention.”
Leilani didn’t hold back, calling Meghan’s cameo “self-indulgent,” adding: “She thinks she’s an icon. If she had any self-awareness, she’d realise how unwatchable she is.”
Despite the criticism, Hollywood insiders are thrilled.
A studio source told The Sun: “This is a massive moment for Meghan. It’s her way of gently putting her toe back in the water to see how she enjoys being on set again.”
