Meghan Markle once faced backlash over her Remembrance poppy, with critics branding her choice “disrespectful” and “tone-deaf.”
The controversy erupted last November after Meghan appeared in a video with Prince Harry discussing online child safety, while wearing a poppy that appeared to lack the familiar green leaf worn by most Britons.
Commentator Lee Cohen told GB News: “It makes one nauseous to see Meghan Markle wearing the poppy commemorating the noble dead of the nation. She is so disrespectful.”
The debate reignited weeks earlier when Meghan wore another poppy at a US Navy event in San Diego on November 8, 2023, days before Britain’s Armistice Day, but during Veterans Day in America.
Critics pointed out that poppies are traditionally worn in May for Memorial Day in the US, not in November.
One frustrated viewer wrote: “Who told her wearing a British poppy while celebrating American veterans would be a good look?”
