Saturday Night Live wasted no time turning this week’s chaos into comedy as James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump taps the nation’s hot topics.
The episode kicked off with a faux Oval Office collapse, parodying the real-life moment when a man collapsed as Trump announced plans to lower weight loss drug prices.
“Oh, hi. I didn’t see you there,” Johnson’s Trump quipped, introducing the skit. “Someone was dying in my office.”
He later explained that each cold open aims to create a big visual summary of the week’s madness. From demolishing the East Wing to imagining a bald eagle dropping onto the White House lawn, Johnson’s Trump served the absurd in true SNL style.
The parody didn’t stop at theatrics. Johnson addressed political controversies, from grocery prices and the government shutdown to election results.
“Hey, all in all, a great caper to an awesome week, except for election. The Democrats won. The lame stream media called the elections a rebuke of Trump’s policies,” he joked, adding, “Jokes on them: They’re Stephen Miller’s policies. I don’t read that stuff.”
He even touched on Zohran Mamdani’s win as New York City’s new mayor.
“Can’t believe they elected Mamdani," Johnson's Trump said. "You know, I’m torn because I like a winner, but I’m not crazy about a Muslim. Maybe he’ll convert, right?”
The Trump mimicry wrapped the week on a darkly comedic note about the Supreme Court and SNAP benefits, proving once again that SNL knows how to turn chaos into laughs.
