The very first trailer has dropped for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic titled, Michael.

Having been announced two years earlier, it is set to release in theaters on 24 April 2026, with the iconic singer’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson playing the titular role.

Training Day filmmaker Antoine Fuqua is directing with Gladiator writer John Logan behind the script.

The film comes 17 years after the tragic death of Jackson on 25 June 2009 from acute propofol intoxication.

Having been ruled as a homicide by the Los Angeles County, his doctor, Conrad Murray, ended up being convicted for involuntary manslaughter in connection to his death.

“Michael tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world,” reads the synopsis of the biopic.

It continues, “Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.”

While many are excited to see his nephew take on the role, others are concerned that it will leave out many controversial aspects of Jackson’s life.

“JAFAAR JACKSON YOU ARE SO HANDSOME AND YEAH YOU LOOK LIKE JUST LIKE YOUR UNCLE MICHAEL,” excitedly claimed one fan.

Citing the relevance of Jackson’s career and influence, another added, “If you grew up with the music of Michael Jackson, it’s almost impossible to watch this trailer and not get goosebumps. This movie is going to make so much money.”

Others, however have major reservations, “This is all alleged of course, but seeing as how MICHAEL apparently had portrayed one of his accusers as a vengeful villain, I have no interest in that movie whatsoever. Even with the reshoots, this project has horrific vibes behind it.”
