Mariah Carey to celebrate career milestone at 2026 MusiCares Gala

Pop diva Mariah Carey, famed for hits such as Fantasy and We Belong Together, is set to be honoured as the MusiCares 2026 Person of the Year. 

The gala will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center on January 30, just two days before the Grammy Awards.

The 56-year-old superstar is celebrated not only for her music but also for her philanthropy, including relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

She also founded Camp Mariah in collaboration with the Fresh Air Fund, providing underserved youth with access to education and health resources.

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, praised Carey as “a true creative force and once-in-a-generation talent. Her artistry and her voice have helped shape the sound of our times.”

Theresa Wolters, MusiCares executive director, added, “Mariah Carey’s influence goes far beyond her music. 

She has consistently used her platform to uplift communities and break down barriers. Honouring her celebrates both her incredible musical legacy and her dedication to others.”

The Emotions singer joins a glittering roster of past winners, including Jon Bon Jovi, Joni Mitchell, and Dolly Parton.

The songstress also shared a nostalgic memory about her iconic Christmas hit, All I Want for Christmas Is You, confessing she was “freezing” in her Santa suit while filming the video, but noting she still treasures the outfit, wearing it every holiday season.
